VLOG 3: Horse Before Cart

Here is my third vlog! This one isn't questions or comments, and it isn't a how to either. It's just a postcard of a Friday afternoon. I wanted to share the joy that is Patty Wesner, my great friend, mentor, and fellow equine adventurer. Tomorrow is the Dessert First Ride with the Washington County Draft Club and Patty wanted to do a test run on a new carriage with Steele. We sat down in the field to talk a little and then tacked up for a ride down the road. Darla, Patty's Old English Sheepdog, came along for the ride too. She may be the unofficial star of this episode, since she likes to follow draft animals around a lot!

I was so happy to you hop up on Merlin from the off side. I was told to do that by a very high level rider who has ridden for years so that the wear and tear on one's body from mounting is distributed to both sides. I get the giggles when I try to get on board from the off side as I haven't quite figured it out !

It is hard for me to get up on the right side. I can't seem to tell my left leg to go over and I get twisted up. Lol. I even have to sit on my desk chair from the left side or it feels odd.

I'm with Babyberry - the music! I wants it, precious! (:

Also, it was great to see you on Merlin. "Uh oh, it's a race." That was priceless. I know it was a lot of work, but woman, you look like you were born to be in that saddle.

It's so nice to "meet" Patty, after hearing so much about her. Looks like horses keep her young (55? no way!)

No helmet? I couldn't do it! :) Not gonna preach at ya, though.

Me too- where's the helmet? I've seen head injuries up close- it's not pretty. Be pretty hard to run your place that way, and everyone says" it'll never happen to me", but it can...

Awesome VLOG! Anything on the animals or video of the farm/home, I'd love to see.

I love Merlin so much, he's the perfect horse. I drive myself mad by looking at Fell ponies for sale and leaning on fence posts watching foals in fields (I'm in the UK - heart of Fell pony country!) and one day I will have one.

Love the Vlog, love your blog and I love your books as well :-)

I love that you're riding in a kilt! Awesome!
And lovely to see you mount on the off side, too. I mount on whatever side he gives me, almost always from the fence because he's too tall for a normal mounting block anyway.
Another nudge for a helmet, though. Gotta have your brain bucket. Looks dorky and isn't the most comfortable, but it's worth it.
