Win The Wind, Enter Now!

I love waking up in a house not yet warm. I know that sounds contrary to what I wrote a few days ago, but note the subtle phrasing there - “not yet warm” is different than cold. Waking up to a cold house is a bummer. It’s all panic and hollow. But waking up to a house with still-hot coals under the ash in the stove? To a home in which Yesterday Jenna did all the dishes in the sink and pre-loaded the coffee maker? Those tiny choices make a morning shine. My house was 55 degrees and humming with potential for comfort. Hard-earned comfort is my favorite thing in this whole messy world.

Well, one of my favorites. Good stories are another drug of choice. When I am home by the fire on this farm I want to fall into stories. Who doesn't want to feel effort behind them, a warm bed ahead of them, and the present of firelight, good food, and an amazing book? In celebration of this amazing Snow Day at home. One of coffee, farming, good work and a new skein of yarn to knit after sunset (Thank you Zwartbles Ireland!) - I want to give away something for all of you out there prepping your homes and farms for the holidays.

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. (Click that link to see a review.) People will be chosen and emailed an online gift vouched from Audible.com to download the ENTIRE 27 HOURS of story. Listen to it on your smartphones with the free audible app. Listen while you feed the horses, stack wood, drive to work, ride the subway, whatever you do. I want more people to experience this world. If discovering this series through my blog is all you get out of it, it  honestly makes ten years of blogging worth it.

Have the first two, waiting waiting on 3! just saw on Tor.com that there is a movie/mini series being bandied about (http://www.tor.com/2015/10/01/patrick-rothfuss-name-of-the-wind-movie-tv-video-game-rights/) which is pretty exciting... ! Seems like Rothfuss is on top of that, with good ideas about how his books are character driven (and not an action flick) So, there is good hope that it will be translated very well. Let's cross our fingers, and I'll toss my hat in the ring for the third book!
Thanks, Jenna!

My suburban homestead just got its first frost this past weekend, and 4 mornings in a row of 20-something degrees. We've had a long, warm autumn, but now winter's kicking in!

I've been curious about this story for a long time. Please enter me in this drawing!
Stay warm, Jenna.

I still have cassettes to mail off to you. Way behind in what I want to do. I would love this audio book. Just moved and don't know anybody yet so this would be helpful. I'm running through the Netflix library with the most episodes. Thank You. Stella

I did discover this series through your blog, & definitely enjoyed them. Looking forward to the next in the series, & your recent comment about enjoying the story more each time made me wonder if I should revisit it. I can imagine having the story read to you via audiobook would be even better.

Hey Jenna :) I'm seriously intrigued at that book now, since I was just reading a chapter in your book "cold antler farm" where you were talking about it (was it in summer ? Or already fall, can't remember !). Found it funny you talked about this today. Or more like fate, yes, it must be. Figured you must have been reading/listening to it quite a lot ! I trust you, it must be good. I need to read it now ! :)

I haven't listened to an audio book as a kid...this seems like a good time to start (should I win) and I love getting good book recommendations! Thanks for the updates from your corner of Veryork. They bring memories of my own time living in central Vermont. What an amazing part of the country!

Hope it's okay to do so, but I'd like to mention Lisa McMann and her series, The Unwanteds. My son recommended them. Youth fiction, similar to Harry Potter and Hunger Games. Seven books...reads like a movie. Worth checking out!

I can't seem to sign on with my name, Patti Berryhill. After you recommended this book, I bought it for my Kindle. It would be GREAT to win an audio version for my commute and when I'm working in gardens. I listen to the news and it's just too depressing!
