It does take a few weeks before your horse knows he has a job again. My mare did the same thing...bucking, spooking, just trying to get out of work. Remember they haven't been ridden all winter so they are probably not in great shape, a little cranky and a little sore. Just keep at it and do a little bit at a time. Wear your helmet too! :)

Good critique of your riding workout. and then again, no matter what, they be horses and sometimes they can be dicks just because they can.Good for you for realizing that you should wear a helmet. One less thing to worry about. I have an extra pair of abetta/smartrider breakaway stirrups I can gift you. They are wide enough to fit when riding in chunky work boots. I have a couple pair but currently no horses so I can part with a set, again, just another thing not to worry about if the horse decides to be a jerk.anyway, if interested let me know farmwife@live.com and I'll toss them into a mailing bag, they are cranberry color, the on sale color of course.http://www.smartridercanada.net/escape.html
