Fall Foliage by Horseback!

This is the tenth vlog, and all I have to share is a little postcard of today in Washington County, New York. See the places I get to ride Merlin whenever I wish, across the road from my own little farmhouse. The views of the Taconic Mountains and Vermont, a good black pony, and the colors and spirit of the season. I hope you enjoy this short video, as it was a joy to make and film. Merlin didn't even mind carrying the macbook in his saddlebags.

P.S. If you like these videos, please let me know! So far the feedback has been positive, but sparse, so if you watch these and enjoy them let me know (and let me know if you don't like them, as well) and any suggestions for future topics?

P.P.S. Check the Birchthorn Webpage for updates and a new chapter (updated every Tuesday, or more) and if you live within driving distance of CAF, shares of live pigs are now on sale for next spring! Reserve your 1/4 or 1/2 today, just email me for details.

This vlog makes my heart swell and sweet ache for the day I find my own unicorn. I recently posted about "One Woman Farm" on my own blog, Heart of Home: Finding my Homestead. One day I hope to find my perfect horse partner, just as you have found Merlin.

I also don't usually comment on blogs, but I gotta say, I've absolutely adored yours. You're inspiring me to get on with buying a homestead (finally!) and I love checking in a few times a week and seeing what new stuff you've posted. Keep it up, I'm loving it!

I love them too. They are inspiring and heartening. The beauty of your world, so different than mine (PNW with huge conifers, thick lush understories including mosses, ferns, drenched landscapes) but just as lovely. Another recent visit in No.VA is convincing me I could live there too.

OK, now you've gone and done it! I've been lurking and selflessly admiring your pluck, dedication and vulnerability from "afar," and this just put me over the edge into that realm of bitter gall we call Envy! Damn.

I've been lurking for ages, but i wanted to say I love the vlogs! A little bit of instant (for me!) gratification! Vlogs bring thigns to life in a way photos can't so I say keep on keeping on!

As for topics, I'd love a tour of the homestead. I'd love to see where the kaleyard is in relation to the piggery and stuff. Or to see what you keep in your pocketses for daily use (a phone? pocket knife? hoof pick? what?)

Lucky you, living your dream. Kudos for getting to where you are.

You ride in a skirt? But don't your knees get rubbed raw? Guess not, huh, or your wouldn't.

Truly beautiful, thanks for bringing us along.

Jenna - fantastic, I have enjoyed all of the vlogs, and as you requested it, I have a few ideas for future ones:

Mentioned it before, will suggest again - sheep! How many currently in your flock, which have names and why, year of the shepherd etc

Your books - with some new people just coming to the blog how about a vlog covering your books, where you were living when you wrote each one, what gave you the idea for each book, how you got it published.

Recipes - your dishes and pictures are so mouthwatering, so how about taking us step by step through that roast chicken on a bed of kale, or making bread.

Making videos - I know how much I love 'First Year - A Video' I watch it regularly and makes me cry every time. Could you share those early ones again? Talk about how you made them, and progressed into making vlogs - I know a lot of people ask about the background music - how do you pick it, do you play any of it yourself?

Game nights - you have talked about these more recently, you could have a round up of the games you enjoy most.

Preserving - it's that time of year, what are you harvesting and storing this fall for winter food. What's still growing in the garden this fall?

Animals 101 - a little tour of the housing, supplies required and living area of your animals - ponies, goats, chickens, sheep, pigs

'Italics'! Has been quiet on the hawk blogs recently, how is his training going, will you be able to hunt with him this year, a reminder of all the steps needed to get to this stage.

Please keep making the vlogs, I'll keep watching, fwd details on, and comment with any other new ideas I can think of!

I just love this vlog! I also get that pang of envy, of your horse and your ride, and your fall colors. We're still green here in Lower AL.

Jenna! Where'd you get your HAT? I have serious envy of that!
