Brianna

Gibson found Brianna dead in the pasture yesterday evening. I don't know what killed her.

It was the hardest livestock loss I've had on this farm.

Oh my so sorry to hear this. Your animals are your life and you treat them with the most humane care. Sometimes they just have a medical problem that we would have never known about. Brianna lived an excellent life while she was in your care. NEVER QUIT!! This is what makes you the happiest.

Terrible news, so sorry to hear that, Maude having a lamb after so may years was crazy, then she was rejected, and you put in so much work bottle feeding Brianna, I know you had big plans for her to be a breeding ewe for the future of your flock.

The stone I chose for my jar of Cold Antler Farm well wishes stones this morning was a chunk of white quartz I found amongst the gravel on our driveway, and I was thinking it was the color of my white chickens feathers or sheeps wool........... hard to see where the 'good intentions' are manifesting in this awful situation.... sending virtual hugs your way

My deep sympathies, Jenna. Your willingness to share this with your accompanying pain is generous and genuine, as are you. This event confirms the hard reality of life/death on a farm.

I'm so sorry to hear that Jenna!! Part of what holds me back from homesteading is risking the loss of life.. I would love my animals so much... But then again without that risk you have no joy, happiness or reward either... It's a balance I suppose... I'm sorry she was taken from you -- especially Brie as you hand raised her... Finding another stone to press into my palm today for you, keep your head up girl :)

I cry with you. We take these little critters into our hearts and do what we can, thinking and hoping it is best. In my very limited exposure to animals, I've made some observations. And have read about those of others. I am thinking that the rejection of Brianna by her mother was a sign. S
omething only animals other than human animals understand or accept. Her mom knew something was wrong. You and I, knowing something is wrong with our offspring, our children, do everything we can from moment of birth, to fix it. Does nature, natural parents like Brianna's, know they cannot fix it and let their children go? Regardless of this, I wish you sympathy in your loss of Brianna. I am crying with you.

It never gets easier losing livestock and S*d's Law is it's always your favourite / hardest to replace. Might there be one more surprise lamb in Maude yet??
