First Fruits!

My property is covered in berries right now! Wild berries, blackberries and raspberries, are all over this little mountainside! This is the haul from just a few minutes of picking and I plan on spending a lot of time out there today picking more while the fruit is heavy on the vine...literally. I think there may be some jam in the larder before the day is through!

We always called the black raspberries 'black caps'.

Oooo...black caps! I am so happy to see they still exist. Growing up in NJ, we harvested black cap raspberries like crazy. I miss them. can't even get a cultivated raspberry to survive here in our coastal NC property. I also enjoyed looking at our book titles!

We get several pounds of black caps growing on our 3 acre forested land...it's about the only produce we can get to grow really!
