Pea Giveaway Extended to 6PM Tonight!

Here is all you need to know: leave a comment on this blog post after sharing Cold Antler Farm on facebook and win a free packet of seeds!

Annie's Heirloom Seeds is happy to support the Challenge and is going to GIVE AWAY 5-10 packets of a beautiful variety of pea called Little Marvel! This should be even more motivation to join in on the Challenge and start growing food at home, even if it is your first tim attempting the miracle. To win one of the free pea packets all you need to do is share a link to the Snap Pea Challenge or Cold Antler Farm on any form of social media. Leave a comment below saying where you shared the link, ex:

This is Stacey from Idaho and I just shared CAF on Facebook! I'd love some pea seeds!

And you are entered! It's that easy. You help spread the word about Cold Antler Farm for a few seconds and I'll happily take all the comments in this post and pick 5 or t10 random winners to get a free package of seeds in the mail delivered fast and in time for the challenge. Winners picked Sunday Night so share and enter soon! Every time you share a link, you get an entry so the more you enter the more likely you'll be getting a package from Annies, as every comment on this post is a chance to win!

P.S. I am experimenting with adding vermicompost to those plastic-topped growing containers you see in the hardware store with the just-add-water-dirt-discs. Do you know what I mean? I took some seeds I had and set them up in the expanded disc "planter greenhouse" and once the seeds started to morph into sprouts I covered the whole thing with dark, casting-rich, vermi goodness from the worm bin. I am going to see how they compare to the regular discs. I predict WELL.

P.P.S. If you do buy one of those little mini-planters with the plastic clear dome, DO NOT PLACE IT IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT. All that does is create spindly, weak, useless sprouts reaching for the sun and shriveling up and dying a few weeks later. I know you think a seedling needs all the sun it can get but you are better off putting it out of the sun in a bright spot or under indirect light from a bulb than in any direct sunlight.

AND THANK YOU ANNIE'S!

Just to make it clear:"Little Marvel" is NOT a snap pea. It is a perfectly nice heirloom pea, and they have to be shelled.

Thank you for that tip about the plastic domed green houses. I've tried those twice before and had the same spindly results. I shared your pea challenge on my blog. :)

I shared hoping for some great seeds...but, I'm in S.C. and started my sugar snaps yesterday...straight into the garden. Still I need to plant several successive batches so they don't all come in at the same time! Fingers crossed....but I'll be a winner when it's harvest time!

Francesca from Nevada here, posted on google+ about the challenge. I love eating shelling peas, especially heirloom, and I would love to test the limits of this variety's hardiness, namely if it can survive the hot days, cold nights and sandy soil of my state.

Yay!

Sarah K., Covington, GA, and I shared on Facebook and Google+.

I am getting ready to start seeds (tomatoes and lettuce and the kiddo is planting catnip) and have one of those little plastic greenhouse things to try this year. I'm glad you said to put it in indirect sunlight or I wouldn't have. I was trying to figure out where it could get the most sun so I'm glad I read this.

I'm not on any social media sites, but shared details of the pea challenge via a group email to 50 people, and asked them to post details on FB etc.

Also included links to your 'First Year' video clip, and the new book trailer.
