This Just In...

I was just walking Jazz down the road and happened upon a buck lounging by my pond the size of an Allosaurus. I have never seen a deer that big. He watched us, and I watched him. He sprang off when I took a step towards him.

Whew. That is the second big buck I saw in the first week of hunting season. Didn't get to take a shot at either, but it is encouraging knowing they are out there...

It looks as though there are lots of them out there this year - you're sure to get a shot at one soon.
Good luck!

Maybe set up near the pond since that is where you have seen one come for water. Likely the other deer in the area know to go there too. (If you can hunt there)

I'm hoping you get a doe and leave the best of the breeding stock to do just that. I'm in favor of hunting, especially overpopulated deer, but the trophy thing hurts the species. Real predators eat the weak first. Just sayin'.

Isn't it funny, they know when you don't have a gun with you?

We've had several deer, including two bucks, that have been visiting our orchard EVERY DAY at 3:30 pm, I can literally set my clock by them. My dad came over a few days ago and sat and waited.....sure enough, they didn't show! hahahaa! The next day, they showed up at 3:30 again. Smart deer!

the bucks that live long enough to get big are very hunter savvy bucks, with a keen sense of humor. we saw a huge one from the truck the other day, a many points buck, they are handsome fellows. still waiting on hunting success from the folks that hunt our back acreage.

I am proud of you! I'm so glad you stood your ground and called the police and I hope the dumb a**ses do come back and run straight into them - I bet they don't even have a license and that will be a great day for them when they get caught. I'm sorry you had to deal with this. We have 700 acres of bush and hunting season is a nightmare here with poachers. We don't hunt anymore, my husband used to but we like having the deer around now and don't really need the venison since we bring caribou and fish and moose home from Alaska with us. But no one has ever asked to hunt on our land, they just come here and hunt on our land and our fence lines because they know we have deer. It drives me insane. I'm glad you stood your ground and I hope you don't have any further trouble with stupid people and can just enjoy your hunting!

Don't feel bad about the big buck, they are like walking jerky. Go for the medium sized ones, they aren't tough from years of chasing does!
I got a huge doe once, couldn't even enjoy the meat it was so tough.
