Name That Pig!
More on Antlerstock over the next few days, but I want to introduce you to the new pig! He's in his new-and-improved pig pen that Patty, Kate, and Jason helped me build today. The pen was a long time coming, but made necessary when this guy escaped during Antlerstock and had to be caught in the middle of Adam's lecture on homebrewing. He screamed in a way most of the guests have never heard before and poor Riley (who drove from Ontario) got pig-screamed at right in the face. Riley helped me get him back in the pen and secured it best we could with extra field fence used to make a roof (he jumped out the top). But now in his big space with water, hay bedding, and plenty of feed he seems darn content. He just needs a name...
So, suggest a name! We already got a bunch at Antlerstock but I wanted all of you folks who couldn't be here to help with a name as well. The runners up so far are Lunchbox, Sizzle, Spotted Dick, and un cochonnet. What do you think?
P.S. In the video I say the pen is 10x15 feet. But I was wrong, more like 10X12.

I like the name Louie. :) Just food for thought, pun slightly intended, I raised pigs growing up and learned something the hard way. Make sure your sheep/goats can't get their heads stuck in the fence. We came one evening to feed our pigs and saw that they ate one of the ears off of our sheep cause it got it's head caught in the fence. We were horrified and felt terrible!!! Lesson definitely learned the hard way and I'd hate for it to happen to you. He's a beauty and can't wait to hear what you name him. :)
I say "Sammy the Hammy" .... best name ever! Unless you count "Bacon Bro"
Hmmm. I'm of the opinion that his name should be Lunchbox. I like how it rings.
his name should be "Piggy"
Pythagoras. Or Plato. Something that elevates him beyond standard pig-ness.

Alvin. After Alvin Karpis, the famous prisoner who escaped from Alcatraz.
"Curly" Or Mutt and the new one Jeff. Cute pig.

BATMAN
given the scream you say escaped him, and his ultimate purpose as supper, I would think Edvard Munch might be appropriate!
I like spotted dick.
Merlin! Or you know... Porkchop. :)
Though I do really like Lunchbox!
Banshee - as in "Screaming like a..."
I'd name him Bruce, after Bruce Springstein. We named one of our cats Bruce because he's wild and crazy and screams loudly.
Diane in North Carolina
How about Cochon? How big will you let him get?
i was going to say rooster since that was the first thing you hear when watching the video...then freckles came to mind. i also like pork chop =o)
Melissa's got it right--Alvin from Alcatraz.
(yes, the pig scream was unreal.)
i was going to say rooster since that was the first thing you hear when watching the video...then i though freckles was appropriate. but i really do like pork chop!
Spot, of course
Lunchbox! That's one I've never heard before... usual/overused suspects are bacon or dinner or porkchop. I vote Lunchbox.
Schnitzel! I like the way it sounds. His buddy can be saucisse (or saucisson, depending on gender).
Hambone. I like Spot too. He sure is cute.
Merle, He looks like my merle Australian Cattle Dog.
Oscar, as in Oscar Mayer. Best wishes!
Muc, gaelic for pig!
Joe says Hogwarts; Tim says Pork Chop and I say Clyde after Bonnie and...
I second Edvard Munch. Awesome!
Wilbur.
Houdini, the great escape artist
I second the Banshee comment.

I still vote either of my suggestions from Antlerstock: cochon, or spotted dick.... It's fairly obvious after that debacle which I'm leaning towards now! He's DEFINITELY a Spotted Dick.... Riley's ear is still a lil off from that! lol
Albie D. Licious (I'll be delicious!)
I like Spotted Dick, but I also thought maybe something like Greasy Ham would be appropriate because of his escape.
I think the simple Spot is a good name for him.
My vote is... Prosciutto.. that way instead of just thinking how cute he is, you can focus on how delicious prosciutto is...
Wilbur! Totally.
He's an escape artist, so Houdini seems fitting.
Cochon, in Louisiana we have cochon de lait's every winter....a pig is roasted, everyone brings food and music is played. You should come down in January and join us.
How about That'll Do, as in "that'll do, pig" from Babe (book and movie)? It'd bring a smile every time you call the ornery rascal.
Alcatraz.
Well, you have Ryan (the) Gosling already...Could this little guy be Kevin Bacon?
Or Hamilton? Ham for short
How about "Seymour" in honor of the late John Seymour, great homesteader, author, promoter of the GOS and teacher to us all?
Sir Edmund (for his ability to climb, see..)
"Pig Papillon"
Hamlet, or Magnum PIg
Rothschild. I don't know why.
I offer the name "Munch." He munched away on that whey and hay doing pigdom proud.
kookoosh...anishnaabaemowin word for pig

How about Proscuitto as a name. Its and easy call name and so chic.
I'm lovin' "Banchee".
How about Orvis? Or maybe Maple?

Dr. Julius Strangepork...from The Muppets!!

"Eaton M. Sooner"
Lisa in Maine
My humorous side leans heavy towards Spotted Dick. The unexpected presence of that name in your list sent tea out of my nose. However, Lunchbox is also growing on me as that happens to be my brother's nickname and he's definitely in the "man-pig" boarish category.
How about"Sunday's Lunch"
deb from Idaho
I like lunchbox:)
Just had a thought, along with the pig name Bacon, when the 2nd lil' fella arrives u could name him- Kevin... together u would have= Kevin + Bacon, Kevin Bacon..maybe?????
