Win a Year of Pies!
Yup. You read that title right. You can win, A YEAR OF PIES. The catch is you need to supply the flour, fruit, and stove. English and me, we're supplying the recipes. I first met Ashley English online. She emailed me back when her first homesteading books were coming out asking if I could review them, offer a comment? I did read them and was really impressed. Her four books (on chickens, canning, dairy and bees) were all amazing and I am darn proud to have my quote on the back of them. Over the years we have emailed, sent packages, and stayed in touch. I consider her a kindred spirit and friend. Her little one has a hand-knit Maude wool hat and if that doesn't make the English family special to me I don't know what does!
So when she asked if I wanted to offer a pie recipe for her new book, A Year of Pies, I was more than happy to do it. I shared a recipe for a quiche I made after raising my first pig. It has sausage, cheese, and bacon: a hearty meal for sure. It's in the book along with recipes by other bloggers and authors and the whole thing is beautifully photographed and the recipes are easy to follow and taste AMAZING!
I am giving away a copy on the blog today, so if you want to be entered to win, just leave a comment! Tell us your favorite type of pie. Mine is apple, warm with vanilla ice cream! I'll pick the winner Sept 1st along with the fiddle winner! Good Luck!

Pie, any kind will do. Blueberry is my absolute favorite.
Favorite pie - sour cherry.
I'd like to have more recipes, especially for pie!
Thanks,
Ray D
This book looks incredible!
My favorite pie would also be apple with a load of cinnamon and sugar to be sure.
I'd say my favorite is a chocolate chip cookie pie that has a butter crust...recipe was in the back of a Penzey's Spices catalog...yummy
I'd love to win a copy of the book! Pies are my favorite, especially a raspberry rhubarb pie. Yum!
Pumpkin Chiffon Pie, with freshly made whipped cream. It's almost pumpkin season, or as others call it, fall. Can't wait.

Ooooh Pie > Cake!
My favorites have to be rhubard custard and peach.
i have to second a nice warm crisp apple pie on a cool Autumn's day w/ just a scoop (or two... perhaps three) of vanilla ice cream!
Fabulous idea Jenna! Now I want to leave work and go home and bake! My favorite pie is pecan with dark chocolate morsels! YUMMY in my TUMMY!
There are so many to choose from! I would say chocolate pie and pumpkin pie and apple pie oh the cherry pie can't forget that! I also love quiche! I render my own lard for really yummy home made crust!
Mmm, steak and kidney pie make with Guinness...mmm autumn winter food!
Chocolate lovers cheesepie!! Super rich, but so, so good! I usually only make it once a year, in November, for some reason. But after dreaming about it now, I may have to move it up a month or two!
I read her book on bee's I loved the cover! It was soo cute! Anywho, my favorite pie would be homemade pecan pie with a little whipped cream on top, yummy. And not store bought pecans, but the pecans you pick up off the ground and take the shell off yourself! Now that's a special pie ☺
Strawberry rhubarb. No, wait. Pumpkin. My great-grandmother's pumpkin pie recipe is the best ever.
My favorite pie depends on the season. Strawberry Rhubarb in early summer, blueberry later in the summer, pumpkin & pecan in the fall.
I don't usually like to pick favorites, but today a coconut cream pie is sounding delicious!
Blueberry! Or Key Lime!
Awesome. I am not a baker, but for some reason I LOVE making pies. My favorite is the spinach quiche my mom makes, involving ricotta, cheddar, and other goodness. My husband has improved it with the addition of sausage.

I love a real pumpkin pie made from roasting a small pie pumpkin. Can't beat it.
Um...I love making pies...something so relaxing about rolling out dough. My grandmother has the BEST apple pie recipe and has shared it with me...I'd love to get a copy of this book.
Lemon Meringue for sure!
Except Chocolate cream is good, as is apple, cherry, raspberry, . . .
Strawberry... mmmmmmmmmm.
Let's see, cherry, buttermilk, pecan, lemon merangue, and banana cream are my favorite pies. Oh, and blackberry and raspberry either as pies or cobblers.
My very favorite pie would be Key Lime Pie but since I don't get or make that very often, my other choice would be peach. But then I like anything with peaches!!! You could even throw some raspberries in with those peaches and I would think I was in heaven. Thanks, Jenna and Ashley, for doing this give-away.
I am so excited about this book. It's not at my libarary yet! I hope I will it! My favorite pie is peach...wait...apple..no pumpkin. Pies are my favorite!
I'm so excited about this book! My libarary doesn't have it yet. My favorite pie is apple...no cherry...no peach...pumpkin. Pie is my favorite!
I love all pies, especially berry and apple. My mom had a killer apple pie recipe that was baked in a brown paper bag. Sadly, it was lost when she passed on. A Year of Pies looks amazing!
I would love to win this. I really enjoy baking pies of all kinds - sweet and savory, and have been curious about her book.
Can't decide between Key Lime, Pecan, Peach or Apple. Today, I feel like a Pecan Pie, but with way more nuts than the sugar mix.
My favorite pie to make and eat is my mom's apple pie, made with apples, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. And of course her famous pie crust :-)
My favorite pie depends on the time of the year. Right now apple is tops, but pumpkin is coming in season so I will reevaluate soon.
Shelley
Ooooh pies! Love making them AND devouring them. My favorite is a tossup between Old Fashioned Amish Pumpkin Pie and Strawberry Rhubarb Pie. You're making me think about the holidays Jenna!
Lemon meringue!
Apple Pie with ice cream - NEVER. In my house - "Apple Pie without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze." Preferably an aged cheddar.
I love making them as much as eating them... blueberry crumb, apple raisin walnut, strawberry glaze, sour cherry crumb, fresh peach and honey, and the list goes on.
How's the garden cart working for ya???
Interested in any homemade, heavy duty, bomb proof tomato cages... headed up your way end of Sept and can drop a few off at the bookstore of ya want. They fold flat for easy storage... lemme know.
My favorite is peach pie in the summer!
My favorite pie is chocolate cream. Please pick me, thank you.
Gayle
Pear cranberry pie sweetened with maple syrup is a wonderful way to celebrate fall!
I am a pie baker at heart. Apple is my favorite.
My cousin's baked-in chocolate pie!
My cousin's baked-in chocolate -- yum!
(and thanks for offering this!)
I am a pie baker at heart. Apple is my favorite!
Rhubarb in the spring, Pumpkin in the fall.
Pecan!
Love mincemeat with vanilla ice cream. Would love to cook Hubby some delicious pies! Thanks for a chance.
Pies are the best kind of present to unwrap :o)
My favourite would have to be chunky chicken, ham and leek with lovely buttery pastry. Followed by apple pie and custard for dessert!
And none of these fake pies with a puff pastry lid on a dish - it's got to be completely wrapped in shortcrust pastry :oD
I've seen this book on her blog and some of the pies she's made. They look amazing! I love a good warm thrown together quiche type breakfast pie. And coconut. And there is this restaurant in Chickamauga that makes the best Amaretto pie ever. I stopped yesterday on the way to where I was going and they were out. I was so sad because I had a really big craving for a piece. Oh well, there will be more. I would love to win this book! Thanks, Ashley and Jenna.
Jumble berry is my fav. So tasty!
I think key lime, or maybe lemon merengue like my great grandmother used to make.
Either pumpkin pie with fresh whipped cream, or Mom's pecan pie--it's impossible to decide, and I will shamelessly eat a huge slice of either at any time of day or night. :)
Key lime, or lemon merengue like my great grandma would make
If I have to pick, strawberry ruhbarb.
A tie between blueberry lattice and mango pie with ginger and coconut crumb topping!
Oh, pie! I love you so!
rhubarb pie with vanilla ice cream
I've a favorite summer pie, and a favorite winter one. In summer, it's wild blueberry, the kind they make in Bar Harbor, Maine. In winter, it's my grandmother's pumpkin chiffon with gingersnap crust. Thanks for making me think about pies, Jenna! Now I'm really excited for the end of summer/beginning of fall that means never-ending pie fillings!
I love pie and one can never have too many recipes. Please put my name in the hat.
I love her books too! (have both the dairy and bee hardback) As far as my favorite type of pie, it depends on where I am. If I’m at home here in the northeast, give me a slice of warm apple pie with a strong cup of black, percolated coffee, preferably consumed outside in the crisp autumn air. If I’m visiting my family in the Georgia countryside, it’s always going to be homemade pecan pie (pronounced pee-kahn, not pee-can).
It's a tie between hot apple pie in fall and fresh strawberry in the summer yummy!
Black Rock Forest wild blueberry pie. Mmmmmmm.
I don't think I can pick one. Fresh blueberry, strawberry, peach, Key lime. I'd fight someone for any of these. :)
Apple Cranberry! I just make it like my normal apple and add a few handfulls of cranberries. It is my go to pie for gift giving too!

rhubarb with vanilla ice cream
Love pie! We picked the fruit and my Grandma made the sour cherry or apple pies when I was young...so good!
Blueberry!
One of the ladies at church makes the best coconut creme pie for all the potlucks, it is my absolute favorite and I'm waiting for the day she is willing to share her recipe.
Favorite pie? The one someone else made.
That might change if I win this book!
Any kind of pie is fabulous! Except mincemeat...
You can keep your custard based pies like vanilla cream or choc or butterscotch - give me a fruit pie anyday - and I guess my all time favourite has to be wild blueberry, altyhough a deep dish lattice covered peeach pie I once made from my own peaches was right up there!
I'd love to win a book that is only pies!!! Yum!!
Any kind of pie is fabulous, except mincemeat...
Mmm - sounds good!
I'm not a big pie fan, since I can't eat them, but if I win, I'll give the book to my sister, who is super into pies, and loves punkin' pie best.
Pecan pie, loaded with artfully arranged nuts!
Apple's my favorite, particularly my Mom's.
Close second is Pumpkin.
Both are suitable breakfast food in my family. :)
I'm partial to free-form galettes which do not care if you are good at rolling crusts into even circles. I love them spread with a little jam and layered with nectarines and blueberries.
Ashley English is awesome! (And I love Strawberry Rhubarb or Gooseberry Pie!)
Homemade blueberry pie. Or homemade peach cobbler. And as a fellow knitter, I can confirm that knitting a hat for someone does, indeed, make them family.
Please enter me! I've never met a pie I didn't like! ;)
Lemon meringue pie, warmed, with ce cream is my favorite dessert. Or for dinner, homemade shepherds pie (lamb) or cottage pie (beef) including onion, celery and herbs from our garden.
I love to make tart cherry pie for my dad and key lime or pecan pie for my husband.
Oh, I have a well know obsession with pie....cherry, apple, banana cream, pecan, chicken pot pie, LOVE them all!
Can't pick just one! Pecan and Blueberry top the list.
I love lemon meringue pie. Wait a minute, I have never met a pie I didn't like. Well, sweet potato and maybe cauliflower might be the exceptions that prove the rule.
Cherry pie and apple pie! :)
Hard to decide but the one I make all the time with apples from our trees is Swedish Apple Pie...makes it's own top crust and is so easy and fast to put together. If you don't have the time or inclination to make roll out crusts, this is even better. Warm, topped with vanilla ice cream. Comfort food at it's best! Shelley
Apple pie. No question.
I LOVE PIES! My favorite is apple, just plain apple.
I LOVE PIES! Especially apple pies.
I adore pecan pie, but would have to say my all-time favorite is Strawberry-Rhubarb
Nut tart: Mix of half walnuts, half pecans (annual rattling care package from my Mom who has a pecan grove on her property), grade B maple syrup and an egg. mmmmmm....
Jennifer G
Give me a APPLE pie any day!
My favorite pie is French Silk! Love me some chocolate!!
My favorite is also apple pie, with my homemade crust. A close second is a slice of cold pumpkin pie (also with my homemade crust), eaten with whipped cream for breakfast the morning after Thanksgiving.
Apple is my favorite then blueberry. With home raised and handpicked fruit, of course.
My favorite pie is from a Betty Crocker cookbook my mother gave me when I got married 44 years ago. Pecan Pie!

Favorite pie...blueberry cream cheese pie! So yummy! I'd love this book, I have most of Ashley's others...thanks for offering this Jenna!
I'd have to agree with you Jenna, Apple with vanilla ice cream is number one on my list. All this chatter about pies is making my hungry for one, I think I'll bake one for tonights snack.
Ginger :)
Shepards pie...def!!! Dessert pie would have to be blueberry w/crumb top!!! YUM!!!
I love making pies and once I was comfortable with my crust recipe the dam broke and the sky was the limit on what went inside! But I guess my best pies are always the apple ones somehow. Something about apples and cinnamon baking to warm the soul. Not to mention to satisfy a sweet tooth!
Thank you for another excellent giveaway! Cherry pie with slightly under baked crust is my favorite. I am the one that always leaves the edges on my plate. Reading other peoples entries makes me want the recipes for gingersnap crust and coconut crumble topping.
favorite pie...there's too many to choose from....but I suppose I am partial to peach...
This book is in my wish list! Ashley English is also one of my favorite bloggers, right in my bookmark queue after you, Jenna. Hope I win...fingers crossed!

This book is in my wish list! Ashley English is also one of my favorite bloggers, right in my bookmark queue after you, Jenna.
Um, favorite pie? So hard to choose! If pressed, I'd have to say good old fashioned apple pie, hot from the oven, with a generous side of vanilla bean ice cream
Hope I win...fingers crossed!
fresh apple pie, made with the crispest apples straight off the tree, a little vanilla and fresh butter, and not too much cinnamon... the book looks like a lot of fun!
Rhubarb crumb with or without the berries. That's my favorite pie.
Apple is my favorite--homemade of course--topped off with homemade whip cream! Yumm! Doesn't last but a couple days in our house.
Apple Pie is my favorite. good luck to all. :)
Ashley lives a few hours from me and even closer to my in-laws so I love reading her blog and visualizing the places she talks about. Her books are great and I would love this one! I love any pie but I think of them seasonally. Summer isn't summer without my grandmother's Ice Box Lemon Pie or a blackberry one made with wild berries from our woods. In Fall and Winter, I have to have an apple pie made with golden raisins that is my Dad's specialty. Thanks so much for the giveaway!
Yes! I want to make pies!
I LOVE apple pie! My favorite is when it's not too sweet and the apples still have a little crispiness to them. This book's cover is making me hungry!
Apple Butter Pumpkin Pie is the favorite at this house!
My favorite pie is pumpkin, with real whipped cream on top!
omg...how do I pick? Apple crumb, warm, with ice cream or fresh whipped cream. mmmmmmm
I work for a a company that makes Pie fill so I would love a pie recipe book. Bring it on!
Heather in PA
Mmmm, apple&walnut pie or a savory pie/quiche. I don't bake sweet pies all that often, more cakes or scones. But a homemade apple pie... Love it.
Apple. Two crust. With little leaf shapes cut out of spare crust and baked to the top. And dough made of real butter and lard.
applie pie a la mode

Hands down my favorite is a traditional Apple pie! I can't wait for fall!
I love pumpkin pie, and it's almost the time of year to start baking them!
I have to say my favorite pie is probably a well executed pumpkin pie. Nothing from a can - the pumpkin needs to be fresh and first roasted in the oven before making a puree. So good.
Lemon supreme pie, it's just to good!
I love pies! A French Canadian traditionnal meat pie called "tourtière" and for dessert, homemade pecan pie is the best!
But, if you serve me a piece of apple, rhubard or berries pie, I surely won't skip dessert either...
Sure had a hard time with the "prove you're not a robot" thing.
I never seem to be able to pick an absolute favorite pie... I'm a huge fan of my mom's apple pie warm with whipped topping or ice cream, lemon meringue is also a biggy, anything with lemon is a fave. But if I have some chocolate pudding pie with whipped topping... I am as happy as a cat with milk. Katlyn ktbug22288@yahoo.com
Chocolate Cream Pie!
pumpkin pie with honey and garden pumpkins!
My favorite pie is strawberry rhubarb!!
pumpkin pie all the way....please enter me. thanks
I love pies that use fruits that people don't normally cook... like Peach and Cherry!
Savory pies also have a special place in my heart - what's better than pie for dinner??

I've been eyeing this book since it came out. It looks awesome.
My favorite is the American favorite, cherry pie.
Good day!
Hard to pick! Either cherry pie with vanilla soft serve or a freshly baked lemon meringue, before the meringue gets weepy.
I adore pecan, pumpkin, and sweet potato pie, but my all-time favorite is Strawberry-Rhubarb pie!
Rhubarb sour cream is one of my new favorites! But I'm also a big fan of saskatoon berry and cherry. Oh and apple and lemon merange... so maybe I'm just a pie fan!!
Either pumpkin or apple pie. With homemade whipped cream!

"Pumpkin" pie made with blue hubbard squash! But don't label it squash pie at a bake sale unless you want to be taking it home at the end of the sale...

A year of pies sounds wonderful! Thanks for the opportunity to win it. Straberry pie with fresh whipped cream is my favorite followed by lemon cream cheese.

My favorite pie is blackberry - hands down!
homemade apple pie or cherry pie.
Your pie contribution sounds divine! I love, love, LOVE savory pies--and you don't see too many of them around.
This looks like such a good book. I use to be more of a chocolate/refrigerator pie type person, but I'm really liking blackberry and blueberry type pies with ice cream of course.
Pumpkin Pie made with grade b maple syrup!!!
Cherry pie is my favorite.
Cherry pie is my favorite!
Elderberry filling. All butter crust. Served with whipped mascarpone, no additional sugar but flavored with dark rum. It's more on the bitter spectrum of dessert.
meat pie would be chicken...sweet pie would be pecan!
My favorite pie is Tarte tatin made with plums and orange zest. mmm!
Blueberry Pie!
Nancy
I would have to say my fav is fudge pecan pie with vanilla ice cream!
I love the medivale style meat pie, thick crust, filled with carrots, parsnips, potatos and what ever left over meat I haave in the fridge. Seasoned with rosemary and tyme.
Pumpkin or apple pies are top notch and are the treats of Autumn at our house!
I love custard pies. Vinegar pie (sometimes called buttermilk pie) especially. Perfect in winter!
Hi Jenna, I love just about any fresh fruit pie, but my favorite pie of all is homemade Chicken Pot Pie.
i like to make quiche for my family (which they love)- does that count??
thanks for the giveaway- i'd love to learn how to make more!
my tomato basil pie is to die for. it is so nice to have a pie in my repertoire that is, in fact, to die for. i wouldn't mind adding a couple more to that category, though.
I love lemon and lime pies, but the one that I love the most is a chocolate pudding pie. Used to be my favorite part of family Thanksgiving parties.
My pick would be home-grown pumpkin, not too much spice and nice and fluffy so the pumpkin taste comes through. With a big dollop of whipped cream of course!
Sweet Potato pie is the best. Yummy, yummy yummy. Now I'm craving pie.
Sour Cherry is the best.--hart
Sour cherry is the best--hart
oh my pie!!! I do believe it would be strawberry rubarb or a good old Ky Derby Pie. Books sounds wonderful. Nancy Settel Ocean View Delaware
This book sounds amazing!! I love pie in all shapes and forms, from quiche to blackberry. But I have a special place in my heart for sweet potato pecan pie.
..never met a pie I didn't love!
Kyle
Thanks for sharing.........my favorite.......blackerberry, warm with vanilla ice cream!
my favorite ... hot Tarte Tatin ( kind of an applepie) with a scoop of fresh cold sour cream .... add a roaring fire and wind blowing as needed
pumpkin, with a generous amount of whipped cream, I love eating it the morning after Thanksgiving for breakfast
My favorite pie is with sour cherries, but I like any kind of pie, really (especially fruit varieties).
Love sour cherry pie the best. Thanks for the chance!
Maple Walnut- hands down. It's a nice change from pecon on Thanksgiving without sacrificing "tradition!"
lemon meringue - my absolute favorite
lemon cream cheese pie is my favorite.
Any pie will do but I am partial to apple, pumpkin, sugar cream, squash, coconut ....
Mmm, I think my favorite is pecan pie. Since becoming a Missourian, I have learned to love raisin pie, peach pie, and sweet potato pie, too. All good! The new book sounds fantastic!
I'm an apple pie gal! I entered the Lark Crafts one too, so if I win both (haha), you can do another giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity! The violin one looks SO nifty, but I didn't feel right entering that one because I didn't want to enter unless I could donate to your farm, and it's not possible right now. Wishing you much luck prepping for the coming seasons!
Ooh!! My favorite is apple, with mince a close second.
Blueberry is my fav!
Ooooh, I love Ashley English and I really want this book! My favorite pie is Peach! Nothing like a peach pie.
Definitely apple pie with streusel topping and extra cinnamon! Oh and with vanilla bean ice cream of course!
me too Apple pie with vanilla ice cream
My favourite pie? Thats a tough one. In the fall and winter, definitely pumpkin (with lots of whipped cream!) or apple (with vanilla ice cream). The best summertime pie for me would have to be blueberry. Not too sweet with a hint of lemon. I also just came across a recipe for buttermilk pie which intrigues me. Sigh, now I want pie. Thanks for the opportunity!
My heritage is French Canadian, so pie is in my blood. I have to say my favorite pie to make (and eat!) is peach-blueberry. The flavor combination is phenomenal.
Karen D.
I can't pick a favorite but I've made Shaker Lemon Pie a few times in recent years and really enjoyed it, as long as I get the lemon slices paper thin.
I'm a sucker for a good apple pie. I make a good one.
When I was in grad school, I used James McNair's pie cookbook to do pie night every Monday (mostly as a way to procrastinate). My friends loved it, and pretty soon I needed to make more than one pie to feed everyone. I love pie, but have to say that the red banana cream pie was my favorite of them all.
Cherry Pie and Lemon Meringue!!!!!
Rhubarb
