Annie, I feel your pain, and I don't have that thick, gorgeous coat!

I always wondered if fans worked with dogs and cats because they don't have sweat pores. Maybe she's pretending to be riding with her head out the truck window.

I always hated summer too until yesterday. I got Air Conditioning installed in my house! Since I am pregnant, and it can easily get up to 115+ (sometimes more) here in the summer (northern CA), I am THRILLED! Sorry Annie...I can feel your pain!

Annie it sucks being a husky in the summer :( My Rott/Shep Rudy agrees with you except she's got AC and only goes outside to use and eat the grass. She sends cool thoughts to you!

I always tell people that I love winter because if you're cold, you can warm up by dressing warmly. But when it's hot, you're hot. taking off your clothes and drinking cold drinks don't really cool you, they're just temporary reprieves.

By the way, Jenna, I just ordered all three of your books. I really enjoy reading your blog, and I'm looking forward to the books! keep it up!

Jenna, I have 3 cats - 80-90% Maine Coone and the other 10-20% is street genes. Long beautiful hair which shed at the hint of summer. They get lion-cuts- and are cool in the sweaty NC summer months. They look cool and feel cool! The hair grows back in 3-4months - in time for fall. I think dogs can get lion-cuts as well. Maybe Annie will look cool and feel cool as well.

Love your blog, Jenna.
Just wondering though...and excuse me if I am seeing the photo wrong....is the fan blowing out or in?
If blowing in, then the fan is blowing in hot air right into Annie. Turn it around.
I hear a little rubber kids pool filled with ice is a joy for huskies out there to bask in.

When you shave double coated dogs as Huskies are you expose the growing undercoat to the environment to get dirty. In the colder months, like a dirty goose down garment, it has no insulating capabilities. Also, it takes two full growth and shedding cycles for the coat to return to what it should be and sometimes it doesn't. Because dogs disperse heat through the pads of their feet and from panting not their bodies, at my kennel we discourage shaving double coated dogs.

Having spent the last 26 summers in Florida, I really do understand, Annie. Maybe you could persuade Mommy to send you up here to ND to me for the summer and I'll love you and hug you and squeeze you and call you George---err---Annie. The hottest we've seen here so far has been 81. Such a blessed change from Florida.

I'm right there with Annie (minus all the fur of course)! Fall is only 4 short months away baby! Just curious, does she like shwimmin in water like Gibson?

I shaved my Husky, Aussie and younger Samoyed this year and last year too. I am gonna shave them one more time in July; it's really hot in Georgia and they grew back fine last time. They still love fans!

My huskeys used to hate the summer too. They spent a great deal of time lounging in the cool basement. One year we actaully shaved them to help keep them cool, they were suffering so much.

Summer is tough on my dog Sal but a couple do help. He lies right in front of them. Like your new truck. -- barbara
