Just wrapped up the first ever Cold Antler Farm Meat and Beer Workshop. Eight of us got together to brew a five gallon batch of Sweet Stout from Northern Brewer, bottle five gallons of a coffee porter, and ground and cased a plate full of beer and cheddar brats. More on the workshop tomorrow, and more Bircthorn too, but right now I am going to enjoy a good night's rest. It is snowing here, gentle and wet like all spring snows. The farm is white a few hours and I am happy and tired.
Oh, and tomorrow I'll meet Merlin. So who knows what waits between that sunrise and sunset!
Wow, you made me and the hubs salivate with that fare! I gotta tell you Jenna, if it wasn't for you and Joel Salatin I'd still be a veteran vegetarian. Thank you for sharing your personal journey from vegetarianism all the way to raising and crafting your own meat products (the honorable way). You made my transition so much more of a no-brainer. Also, good luck with the gentleman Merlin!
You look beautiful and happy, content and grounded - amazing given the turmoil of the last week. That is a photo to look at and remember your strength and conviction!
Cheese inside too, oh man those look good!...last summer I tried homemade blueberry brats and now they're one of my summer favorites on the grill. Go sausage!
Hi Jenna-I just randomly picked up Made from Scratch at my local library, & loved it. Coincidentally, in December I lucked into finding a my dream rental cabin that actually came with a chicken coop & a chicken. Since then I have somehow managed to acquire three more pullets & 26 baby chicks. I'm really enjoying your blog-very inspiring!
Enjoy the story of a young writer living in Washington County with her fancy dogs, sheep, lots of chickens, fiber & meat rabbits, geese, ducks, turkeys, a hive and a garden. Expect to hear a lot about mountain music, the civil war, local food, and my friends along the way. It's a big time folks.

Those sausages look enormous! Maybe it's just because you're holding them closer to the camera. Mmm... Good luck tomorrow!
Gosh - I haven't made sausages in SO long. It's sheep and dairy round here - no-one with home-grown pigs.
Looks like a good time! Have fun with Merlin and hoping for the best.
