making tracks, taking a rest

Went for a mile run down and up the mountain today. I'm getting back into the swing of running (a sometimes hobby that should be an always hobby) and it makes me feel so good. I didn't bring my running shoes home from the office gym, but I am not a girl to let myself off the hook that easy. So today I went for a jog in my Georgia Work Boots, the same ones I muck the horse stall with. They worked fine. I came home blowing hard, heart pounding, and feeling like my body has a proper use. I hate running while it is happening. It's hard. It hurts. But I am euphoric when I get through it.

The rest of today and the next two nights are dedicated to rest. I pre-programmed the blog posts through Wednesday and will be taking time after work for exercise and relaxation. Right now I am going to stretch, read, and eventually get to the holy act of Sunday Roast. Tonight I'll enjoy an herb rubbed chicken over carrots and kale with a home brew. I backed out of some club meetings in Albany to rest easy, making the farm and a good meal my only work today.

Good for you.

I saw a sign that had a picture of a gal running that said, "Would you rather be sore tomorrow, or sorry?"

Good for you!!

RE: running shoes. My sister is into cross country and loves her Merrell Barefoot Trail Glove shoes, as well as running barefoot. You might want to look into barefoot running sometime so you don't have any excuse! :)
I do plenty of walking and love my (made by me!) Luna Sandals (another minimalist shoe). The more I walk barefoot the better if feels for my (problem) knees. They feel like I'm constantly getting a foot massage the more bumps I walk over. I've also heard people use water/pool shoes as cheap minimalist running shoes. Just a thought.

I have a pair of the Vibram 5 fingers shoes. They also come in a running style with extra padding, I believe. I adore them in warmer weather. I only bought them late last summer, so I didn't get to work up to wearing them all day. It takes some muscle adjustments, but they're awesome!

I'm glad to read that you are resting. Not enough people consider how important it is to rest and refuel. Humans were not designed to always be on the go and working. Enjoy!

Excellent choices for rejuvenation. Your run was exhausting for me. Enjoy the chicken.

Seems weird that last year, I couldn't even think of running until sometime much later in the spring. We still had 3-4 feet of snow. But this year is a whole different animal.

I have been thinking throughout the day that I was somewhat in the same frame of mind lately (everything stacking up and some pretty huge stresses to boot) and then I read your post today.
Went running for the first time in a while today as well! Not boding well for the 5k I am doing with my niece on Saturday, but I was moving at least. Take care!

I hope things are looking up Jenna. It's always going to be up and down. You're strong and brave. I always tell my honey when I read your posts..."I SO could be best friends with that girl." I saw someone's post recently where they said it would be cool to have a get together with a bonfire, wine, music, laughter and kinship. (okay, so I added a coupla things). Anyhow, that sounds divine, doesn't it?! Chin up ol' girl...the funky times will pass and come again...but you've got all of us on YOUR side.

+1 to what Lauren said about barefood running and pawsfurme's endorsement of the VFF's. I learned to love running when I was in the Army, but the same slew of injuries that ended my military career early sidelined jogging, too. UNTIL... I tried barefooting it. I know that minimal (or no) shoes are more practical in Florida than upstate New York in February, but when the weather warms up it might be something to consider.

Also, if I lived closer, I'd totally be your running buddy. Maybe a fun run could be part of Antlerstock one year? A 5K with everyone in horns maybe? ;)

I have VFF! I use them in the gym, or did, until I wore them out. I'll get a new pair as summer comes closer. I adore them for all over. I wish they made a FARM version, which would pretty much be all vibram toe wellies....

I would love a an antler 5k! But I just got up to 1.25 this morning on the treadmill so wait till I at least hit my 3 mile stride again!
