That is a good looking beastie, and as a fellow short person (5' 5" here) I approve of the horse-to-leg ratio.

Not just a beaut either, he was calm, kind, a steady walker, jaunty trotter and level canterer. He was great with strangers, all levels of riders, and his "spooking" was a 3 inch jump in his ass. That was the most fuss we got out of him and his gas-powered bum.

Praying tonight.

It's wonderful if a horse matches your height. I'm 5ft. tall and I used to ride 16 hand plus horses. Now I'm all about 15 or under, much easier to re-mount if your trail riding!

He is super flashy- love the mane.

The pictures look great, Jenna. I believed you said he is 15? If he has been well cared for, he sounds perfect, even at 15. Actually, seems to be the horse for you.

Love the proverb.

Thanks for sharing your snowy morning with us, you have such a beautiful spot. I especially loved hearing the crunch of the snow. As a former snowshoer that's a sound near and dear to my heart!

More so with the wife than the horse, but it can't hurt.

A D-ring bit on a driving horse is good sign.

Keep those thumbs up when you're holding the reins. :)

My parents have two embroidered quotes in their home that are simliar to your proverb and I share them to give you a laugh

"A plump wife and a big barn never did any man harm."

"May your troubles be few and all your sausages long."

Can't wait to hear more about Merlin!

What lovely boy! Aren't ponies just the best? I love horses too, but there's something about a pony that is just even better, at least in my book. My little shetland boy is just a big doll and he has that same beautiful brown kind eye like Merlin! He seems fantastic! I'm praying it all works out for you! Jasper would love him as a pal!

The only other thing I suggest is possibly getting a vet check on him to make sure there aren't any soundness issues, especially since you seem to make him sound a little on the expensive side (not that he doesn't look worth it!)

I do hope everything works out and your dreams come true!

When I saw Merlin, I automatically thought of Heather and her Highland pony - http://www.thefrillyghillie.co.uk/page3.htm

There is a small group of people still using Merlin-like horses to pack deer out of the Scottish highlands. Fells, Dales, Highlands - all suitable for this type of work.
