Balance has been restored to the order of the animals. Cat and Dog are resting side by side now (notice who is on the sheepskin) and scratching and hissing is at a minimun. And on an unrelated but equally good note: all the chicks are fine outside, even at the below zero temps Washington County is offering up...I am on my way out the door to meet a CAF reader down at Battenkill books, says he has a gift for the farm he built himself! What a grand thing.
Animals have their ways of sorting things out. And they don't seem to hold grudges, or hate, or the desire for revenge, or long term resentment, etc. Perhaps we humans can learn a little here. If we pay attention.
I've been out of town so I haven't been able to keep up with the posts. But I heard about Birchthorn and want to read it, however I can't find chapter 1. I went through the archives and it's not showing up. Could you post a link maybe in the side bar so all who may want to read or even re-read won't have to hunt for each posting? Pretty please?
I am glad dog and cat peace is restored somewhat. I knew they'd figure it out in the end.
That is SO sweet! Then I saw where the cat was and had to laugh a little. But what a great dog to give up the sheepskin for that cat. I'm sure that's what the cat is being called in dog language.
I read chapter 3 last night then again today. I think I must have missed some things and it seemed a little different today. It sure is making me want to read more to see will happen next! Great job!
Pretty soon they will be best friends, that is what our family experienced with our Maine Coons and the dog (a 120 lb. yellow lab). Hopefully Lilly won't take too long to join the party.
That's cool. The kitties and dogs live in harmony here except for my 3 month old puppy who is trying to get Rocky, the ME coon, to play with her. He isn't amused but does present himself in a teasing manner for her.
George is one smart cat. The other night I was awakened by senior dog growling in the other room. The cat had taken over the dog bed and wouldn't move. However dog is too intimidated to get up and nudge or bark at cat to move. Dog weighs 4x as much as the cat.
The picture could have been taken in my house except that the dog on the floor whould be a large rough collie and the cat in the dog bed would be a cream colored Persian. Cheers
I have a very elderly cat who likes to move onto the dogs bed as soon as he gets it warmed up for her. He quietly and gently growls at her, but she's stone deaf and doesn't hear. Once she gets her old bum settled, he gently gets up and goes to lay on his other cushion beside our bed.
Enjoy the story of a young writer living in Washington County with her fancy dogs, sheep, lots of chickens, fiber & meat rabbits, geese, ducks, turkeys, a hive and a garden. Expect to hear a lot about mountain music, the civil war, local food, and my friends along the way. It's a big time folks.

there is a link to chapter 1 and 2 under the most recent post!
Has Lily ventured out yet? I'm glad George has decided to make friends.
Being a dog person myself there are certain concessions that we all have to make to keep things honest....one of those is that "cats always rule". :)
I used to have a fridge magent that said "Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs just have to get used to it!"
oops magnet!

Can't wait to see what the gift is!
