Aww, your little girl is lovely, and I do wish her all the best with her new babes. Is she a meat rabbit?

I am hoping to one day have a few angora bunnies for spinning, as I'm not sure yet that I would want to eat my livestock--I know that's poser-ish, but I'm a city girl, trying to homestead a city property and I've never killed my own food before. :)

Anyway, hope you have better luck with your kits this time around. :)

she's a meat rabbit, I started with fiber rabbits and switched to meat rabbits, mostly because I have the sheep for fiber, but there's nothing wrong or poserish about wanting to raise rabbits for wool! don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

At one time I had a 12 cage system and we raised rabbits for meat. However we didn't really enjoy the butchering of cute rabbits (for some reason poultry does not effect us this way) and the meat was not all that good so we got rid of them all and now have chickens, ducks, quail and one lonely pheasant.

A couple of questions then -
1.How many rabbits do you have?
2.If you have more than two do you keep them separated by sexes the rest of the time or do you keep them in individual cages?
3. Do rabbits need the company of other rabbits?

Jenna,
I signed on with my husbands id instead of mine for the rabbit questions. Sorry about that.

I have 4 rabbits. 3 does and a buck

All in their own cages

3. Do rabbits need the company of other rabbits?

I'm not sure? They are right next to each other and can see each other through cages, but not sharing cages unless a female is brought to a male's hutch to mate.

^Rabbits don't need the company of other rabbits. Sure, they like it, but it's not mandatory. :)

Finger's crossed for your little doe, Jenna! I've got 15 rabbits right now, and I need to get 3 litters underway before it gets too cold around here...

Best of luck with the winter kindling, Jenna. Hope she produces a nice litter for you and they stay healthy. She's lovely.

I don't believe I saw a follow up post saying that your doe had kindled. Did I miss it or did something go awry???
