here she comes
Irene will hit Washington County later tonight and stick around till Sunday evening. I feel as prepared as possible, and will even board up the glass French Doors with plywood if makes me feel safer inside. I have plenty of water, food, flashlights, lamps, and crank radio waiting with me. The dogs seem just fine, to them it is nothing more than Saturday.
Off to a three-hour yoga retreat to breathe and stretch. The perfect storm prep for me at this point. I'll update with photos and news long as I can, but am certain we'll lose power sometime around midnight or sooner. There's no way storm crews will be out in the hurricane repairing either, so check back on Monday for more coverage!

Stay Safe x
Hi Jenna,
I know you'll be fine with all your preparations. Yoga is the best thing for you today :)
Praying for all who are in the path of the hurricane. I certainly hope that you come through this safely with all intact and injury free. Post as soon as you can and let us know you are safe.
Storm Update: NC, Sat. 8:10 AM
Hi Jenna it has finally made landfall on our coast and is down to a cat. 1 so here inland we are just having a windy, rainy day with possibility of flooding around creeks and some trees coming down but so far no power outages. Good luck with yours.
Odie
Be safe Jenna and enjoy your morning of Zen. ;-)
I'm praying for ya. How far from the coast are you? Maybe your next investment should be a very large stock trailer for evacuation purposes! You coulda' come to Missouri. :-)
It will not be that bad, Jenna. I lived on the Gulf coast and went through several tropical storms, which is what Irene will be when it gets to you. Yes, you will get an eye opening amount of rain, but the winds will be nothing you haven't seen before. You can have a nice cosy evening with the dogs, listening to the rain and knowing you are where you're supposed to be.
I'm sure everything will be fine, but good luck all the same. You've done what you can, so I hope you enjoy yoga, and that the rest of the day works out well.
I say bring it, irene....we're right behind you in Vermont. I think we're all going to be okay in VerYork. Good luck!
Stay safe and good luck to you all.
P.S. Fill up your bathtub!!! (forgot about this from my days of growing up on the farm -- mom used to do this for winter power outages)
From the NOAA:
IF STAYING IN A HOME...TURN THE REFRIGERATOR TO MAXIMUM COLD AND
KEEP IT CLOSED. TURN OFF PROPANE TANKS AND UNPLUG SMALL
APPLIANCES. FILL THE BATHTUB WITH WATER IN CASE THE TAP WATER
BECOMES UNAVAILABLE AFTER THE STORM. THIS IS FOR CLEANING AND
FLUSHING PURPOSES. DO NOT DRINK IT.
Stay safe and dry Jenna. I am saying
prayers for everyone in path of hurricane.
Stay safe and hopefully dry, too!
Good luck wishes to you from Georgia!
So glad to hear that the sheep shed will be shored up. People can say what they want about New Yorkers, but I know from first hand experience, that they are aces when it comes to helping a neighbor in need.
Sounds like all your bases are covered now, time to sit back and wait. Remember to fill your tub and any buckets you have. We'll be following the storm nonstop and praying for you all.
Enjoy your yoga class, it sounds like so much fun!
Blessings,
Debi
I'll be thinking of you, from California. Sounds like a good night for some knitting. Sounds like you are well prepared.
Be safe Jenna, she hits us around 6pm tonight so we'll ride this out together.
Jamie
For what it's worth, bath tubs are notoriously bad at holding water. By all means, fill it, but fill some other things too. :)
You'll be just fine. Keep us posted!
hope you and all the animals are ok sweetheart, thinking of you xxx babs
Never hurts to be prepared and it sounds like you have done a fantastic job. Best of luck to you.
this just in: Jenna Woginrich does not have a bathtub. She has a walk-in shower, a toilet, and three sinks in the whole house!
No bathtub! I grew up with your opposite, no shower.
Hope you benefited from the meditation and yoga. Glad you have such an amazing support team with the Daughtons and others and were able to get a hold of a generator for the basement. Stay safe and dry.
Glad you still have your sense of humor!
Ummmm..... stock tank??? LOL
Be safe Jenna and farm family. Sending safe thoughts and hope your way for tonight.
Jenna, you have a pond and a creek I believe and I would guess a stock tank or other larger water containers available. Most water issues during these storms have to do with flushing the potty. Creek and pond water can handle that.
I hope you enjoy and safe rain storm and nothing more worrisome.
Tony in Asheville
Hang in there, Jenna. :)
You can always fill up your washing machine!
