Jenna, once again you've made me cry. I am so damned proud of you. Thanks for reminding us that the road to our dreams may not be easy, but it sure is worth the adventure. Thank you so much for letting us share in this life of yours.
Perfect song choice. You are brilliant and an inspiration. I showed this to my husband and he said it made him "emotional." We are also in our late 20s, but are unfortunately “presently sifting through take out menus in our current metropolis.” Well, an Alaskan semi-metropolis. We cling with fervor to our schemes of buying land back in the midwest and moving towards self sustaining. Your year in recap and ending of "So Can You!" gives us hope that dreams are possible. Thank you!
Jenna, you made me cry too. You and I are the same age, in different countries, and every day you amaze me with how much you get done through sheer determination and commitment.
PS I saw the pictures of Pig and thought, Pig! how did I already forget about her? that you managed to sneak in a whole new species there and succeed is amazing. hats off to you, woman! Can't wait to buy & read Barnheart.
Watching your video this am I caught a glimpse of the spirit that spins the earth. Well done, and thanks for inspiring me to keep going when it gets rough....it is all worth it!

I'm right alon with Piper - you mademe cry again and you've done another amazing job. I can't wait for the full length movie to come out staring Renee Zelweiger!
Jenna, this a beautiful collection of your year. We all know how challenging your winter was, you are a strong woman for never giving up. Now you are reaping the benefits of sticking it out. Your beautiful flock and pony, your handsome border collie, and your amazing farm.
wow Jenna you really have come so far!! I so proud of you. You made it through crappy gardens, and a crappy winter... and now you're out the other side, and have a pony. I read your blog every day, thanks for keeping my barnheart warm while I figure out how to get my own darn farm.
Very inspiring! It's been a huge inspiration to watch you work your way through all of these new things, and gives me hope that I'll soon be able to step it up a bit more and do the same.
Absolutely beautiful, thank you so much for sharing that video with us. It seriously made me cry, but in a good way. Despite all the bad stuff going on, there's hope... and that is really the greatest gift you can give people. Thank you.
fantastic job girl, thanks for taking us along everyday through both the ups and downs. Your are an insperation to so many and your ability to pull on your boot straps and keep going is a lesson to all of us. My wife and I are great followers of yours and we now have our five acres complete with house and barn. thanks Jenna
Jenna! You are just such an inspiration. I honestly feel you'll accomplish anything you ever want to do. I'm in awe and extremely proud of your accomplishments and grateful that you allow us to follow along. I am so appreciative. Mimi
All through watching this video I kept thinking look at what you made happen Jenna! I hope now and then you get the chance to sit down for a little while and enjoy your accomplishments. Can't believe you've written another book and you bake bread as well! Here's to many happy years of success at CAF!
What a wonderful film and what a great way to celebrate a fantastic adventure, tough days and all. Congrats on all you've accomplished, it's completely inspiring!
Yep, I cried! Thank you for such an inspiring video. I hope it reminded you and re-inspired you to continue along this journey. I need people like you to know that I am not crazy for wanting all the same things and more. You are great and I look forward to your blog (and your books!) every day. Think of all the people's lives you have changed! Mine for one. Thank you Jenna!
Brilliant, Jenna. I know it's been a tough year but you've come far. This shows just how much you have to proud of. I can't wait to see what the next year will bring!
How absolutely beautiful Jenna! It all started for me reading an article in Mother Earth News that you wrote to light my fire. I am fully inspired by your accomplishments and am working to have my own. Keep up the good work!
God damn girl! It's a good thing I work from home otherwise I would have have been sobbing in the middle of an office! I am still teary eyed.....I am just so darn proud of ya. You give me, the dog, the bantams and the rabbits hope that we too can get out of this urban backyard and into our own piece of dirt. Cyber hugs darling.
totally inspiring jenna! you should be so proud of yourself for all of your accomplishments, especially this past year and with such a trying winter. looking good girl! keep it up :)
Jenna, Your focus and perserverence are really amazing. You've accomplished more in a year than most people do in a lifetime. Anytime I'm being lazy, I just think about all that you do in a day and it helps me re-energize. Thanks for taking us along with you!
WHAT A YEAR!!! You made what was gut wrenching look, with hindsight, doable..........and you did it girl, you did it! Great music behind your story, great story behind the girl:) Loved Sal smiling, and also PIG!!!! Hoping your summer is full of light and beauty......you deserve a breather! Love who you are! Again, thanks!!!
Jenna, this was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen! I teared up particularly at the last photo of the seedling. That's what farming is all about - the promise of new beginnings happening over and over again. The best part is the thing that changes and experiences the most renewal is the farmer. You couldn't keep me from reading your blog if you tried! It's a daily pleasure and I thank you!
There is an old joke about a scientist observing two little boys. One little boy is in a room full of presents, big and small and beautifully decorated. He tears into the nearest gift, looks at it and tosses it aside. He tears into the next gift, looks at it and tosses it aside. He continues and opens all the wonderful gifts in the room and then sadly says, "Is that it? Aren't there any more?"
In the next room, the researcher sees another little boy. His room is filled waist-deep with horse manure. He's laughing, rolling in it and tossing it up in the air. The researcher is intrigued. He asks, "Son, why are you so happy?" The boy says, "With this much poop, there's got to be a pony in here somewhere!"
Very cool Jenna, made me cry too. What a year youve had and its so great to see it finish with a full garden and lamb babies and a great dog whos getting smarter every day. What pride you must feel for you have done it by yourself, for yourself. Anyone who comes into your life will be gravy and damn lucky to find you! Thanks so much!
Jenna - Check out www.farmaggedonmovie.com I don't know if this documentary will play in my small town but it is another example of why homesteaders and family farmers are so important. If you get to see it, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
I LOVED this. I am reading your book, Made From Scratch right now. From those beginnings to see where you are now.... it made me cry tears of joy for you. We too live on a farm and were city slickers. :) www.amazinggrazefarm.com
I sent you a message on facebook asking you permission for something. :)
Jenna, you made me cry, again. Sitting here at yet another bad day at one of the most stressful jobs I have every had. When some days our farm seems forever away, your blog makes it seem possible, and gives me the energy to do my chores some days when I would rather just curl up and give up, and I am always glad I did because it is always what I needed to pull me out of my work stress. I always think to myself, Jenna would do it, she wouldn't go home and sit on the couch. You are an inspiration!!!
jenna i just started following you not long ago and i am so freakin proud and inspired of you! You almost made me cry. everything is just lovely and you rock! Kelly
Amazing. I have goose bumps. What a year you have had, Jenna. Even with all of the trials and errors and wintry madness, what a year! Can't wait to see what you accomplish next.
Don't worry about slowing down though. I guarantee he was just like that when he was younger. He just can't remember - That's what happens when you get older :) I know, it's happened to me too.
Love it. Just love it - look at all you've accomplished! As I watched the video, Iron & Wine's "Wolves (Song of the Shepherd's Dog)" was on and I though you would think it was fitting. :)
And b/c I had Iron & Wine on, didn't even realize you had picked a Sigur Rose song for it. Will go watch again with the right tune, but still think "Wolves" went well with it. :)
AWE-SOME! Truly inspiring. I thank the universe every day that I picked up "Made from Scratch". No, it's not all sunshine and roses. Some days it's poop and stitches. But the sunshine comes back.
Jenna, this is great! I found your blog through Jon Katz. I'm sure you've heard this before, but how brave of you to take this on! I look forward to "staying tuned" and see what the future holds. By the way, what music did you use with the video? Love it!
I'm surprised I didn't cry this time. Instead I sat here grinning like a fool watching your first year fly by. I'm so amazed by all you have accomplished in your young life, and I hope so much that my kids will be as passionate about something(hopefully in farming or sustainability)when they're older. I'll thank you again, and probably a million times more, for allowing us to share in your amazing journey, and for inspiring me to step up to the plate and start living my life authentically. Congratulations on your first full year, and wishing you many more, hopefully less stressful ones to follow!

Hello Jenna - I just stumbled upon your blog and watched this video in the open showroom of the Audi dealership where I punch in and out on a daily basis and nearly gushed. I had to look away and compose myself. What a great short.
Jenna, so beautiful and moving. I didn't know I could be so invested in a garden and some sheep and a woman I've never met before. I posted this video on my blog and linked it back to you. Hopefully more people following your blog and buying your books will help more of your dreams come true...maybe a legal chimney? Best wishes! http://fabulousfarmgirl.blogspot.com/
Enjoy the story of a young writer living in Washington County with her fancy dogs, sheep, lots of chickens, fiber & meat rabbits, geese, ducks, turkeys, a hive and a garden. Expect to hear a lot about mountain music, the civil war, local food, and my friends along the way. It's a big time folks.
